Description of the Cybersecurity Awareness Fair

The Cal Poly Pomona Cybersecurity and Awareness Fair (CSAF) invites students of any age to gain hands-on knowledge about cybersecurity.

CSAF is where awareness and the advancement of the cybersecurity industry meet, and we are excited to announce our 19th annual event. This year’s theme “The Watchful Eye,” is a call to action for all technology users to reclaim their privacy. Whether it is criminals stealing your information or companies tracking your data for profit, security and privacy are significant challenges. CSAF brings together experts, professionals, students, and interested individuals to discuss the latest cybersecurity trends, technologies, and best practices. The agenda includes:

Capture the Flag – October 16

Title: Orbital Weapons: Fragments of a Betrayed Sky

The risks are no longer earthly in a world dominated by surveillance and information gathering. Orbital Weapons, a fictional space technology company, is rumored to be advancing its stake in the surveillance game. “Orbital Weapons: Echoes of a Betrayed Sky” is a two-part capture-the-flag (CTF) event consisting of Open-Source Intelligence and Packet analysis. Dive deep into packet analysis, uncover the secrets of cosmic espionage tools, take a stand against the eye in the sky, and uncover the story behind Orbital Weapons.

Hands-On Demonstrations

Attendees actively participate in learning about securing devices, coding, and exploits with all forms of hardware that create a unique train-the-trainer environment staffed by students and faculty from CPP and Chaffey College.

  • Security, Reverse Engineering, Crypto, Incident Response, and Pentesting (./Script) – Installation Successful: See what happens when installers install malware instead of legitimate software.
  • Forensics and Security Technology (FAST):
    • Shielding Your Digital Footprint
    • Defending Your Digital Fortress
  • Management Information Systems Student Association (MISSA): Highway to the Data Zone: How Companies Collect and Analyze User Data from Web Traffic
  • Students With an Interest in the Future of Technology (SWIFT): Hidden in Plain Sight: RF-Controlled USB Cables
  • Chaffey College: Tails: A Tool for Mitigating Surveillance
  • Google Developer Student Club (GDSC): Wireless Danger: Unraveling the Risks Lurking through Public Wi-Fi
